Bend resident Phyllis Bear is ready to fill 50 empty barrels with kids’ books, as part of RSVP Read Together Books & Bears. The new reading program will launch Friday, when the donation barrels — donated by the Rotary Club of Greater Bend — will appear across Deschutes County. People are being asked to donate used children’s books to the program, which will give them to kids in need. The program is targeting children from birth to fifth grade. Bear hopes the program will collect 4,000 to 5,000 books in its first year. To donate, look for barrel locations on the program’s Web site at www.rsvpco.org/BooksandBears.html.

Hi Marie,
I just talked with Patrick at the Bulletin, Thanks for thinking of us!
I wanted to give you this quick testimonial for you to have about a young father at one of our screenings who has benefited greatly from receiving these books.
After attending one of our screenings, this single father made an incredible adjustment in his son’s life by taking the time every night to read to him. With this new activity they share together, his son is talking more fluently, his behavior has greatly improved, and best of all, father and son have been given the opportunity to learn together.
We would love to apply for this again. Please let me know when the time comes!
